The 🍕 challenge part 3

The next league challenge will be……

To make it fair, I’m using a wheel to pick the manager who will get first pick in the next wheel, which will contain two clubs they will be managing.

Wheel 1

Outcome

I’ve obviously going with Boca juniors and River Plate.

Wheel 2

Clubs have been decided.

We jump to December.

League table

Start with Alex Ferguson and cup competition wise. He has made a good start.

The two managers would meet in the quarterfinals.

With Alex Ferguson River Plate being victorious.

With the home advantage in the first leg of the semi.

Ferguson team did enough to book themselves into the final.

Took the lead again early on in the game. However, the Brazilian side pulled a goal back to take away River Plate advance.

Palmeiras won the tie at home and with the aggregate 2-2. The two teams would have to replay the final again.

Unfortunately for Ferguson, it ended in defeat.

Alex Ferguson transfer deals.

He spent a large sum of his war chest on this guy, and I don’t know why??

Outbound wise, he’s made some decent money at the expense of losing some talented players.

River player stats so far.

You’ve seen the defender he just bought. This guy looks miles better.

Decent goalkeeper to let go. I’d have wanted more than the 1 million he went for.

For this guys price and age, I’d say it was a good bit of business. Provided he spent the money better. He probably lost a good squad player with this one.

Future deals look a bit tasty. But again, replacing rotation players with rotation players. There is nothing strong enough to boost the starting 11.

Standout from the word go is their on loan former player Echeverri, who recently came on in the FA cup final over Grealish as a substitute option, and you can see why manchester City signed him.

He was named by English newspaper the Guardian  as one of the best players born in 2006 worldwide.

The squad size for River Plate is massive.

I do follow River Plate casually, and I was keen to see how this kid is getting on.

Arsene wenger – Boca cup competition run.

Despite the cup exit to River Plate.

He’s started well in another tournment.

Seeing off everyone he faced and made it to the final of the competition.

Maybe named Always Ready, but they certainly weren’t ready to face Wengers Boca. The French man’s team hammered the Bolivian side over two legs to lift the trophy.

Before getting knocked out in the later rounds by Ferguson. In this competition, Wenger did guide his team to the top of the group against some really strong opposition.

Impressive.

There was a one-off cup competition game against Real Madrid, which ended in defeat, but not from a lack of trying.

Arsene Wenger transfer deals.

He’s made one signing and gone for an obvious rotational player at a decent price.

The player doesn’t look that good, though.

Outbound wise, he’s made a nice little pay day from letting this player go.

Future transfers it’s nice to see him dipping into the clubs youth academy.

Shame he’s only here for one season as this future player looks a star in the making.

Boca player stays so far.

He’s getting a nice return from his strikers.

Cavani, an already household name despite his advanced age, is still a threat upfront and enjoying a new lease of life with his new strike partner.

Just like River Plate, their squad size is massive.

Boca also has a great youth academy, and I like the look of this emerging talent.

League wise battles Boca got the better of River.

Ferguson wins the closing stages of the league.

Finally, one of them has won a league title 👏 🏆

Ferguson added more players to his over sized squad.

This guy looks a bargain.

River end of season stats

A lot of goals from all areas of play contributed to his success.

Boca final transfer signings.

His most expensive signing didn’t get any game time, but he took his one chance well.

Nothing flashy, but it looked like a good squad signing.

He definitely identified the need to free up squad spaces and cut the cost of the teams wage bill.

Boca end of season stats

Apart from the two highlighted earlier, there is a similar looking theme as River in terms of an overall positive looking performance from every area of play.

From left back to left midfield, they all look like they had an impact in the season.

One player I thought was worth highlighting is this guy.

He was out on loan and did amazing and looks a good replacement if Cavani departs.

The other seasons battle of the two managers

Ends in River getting one over on Boca.

Boca has a shoot at the end of the season at another competition – South American Copa Libertadores.

Started well topping the group.

Then, he battled it out through the knockout rounds, reaching the finals.

But unfortunately, he couldn’t overcome Palmeiras either.

Managers stats

It is a great season for both clubs with success for both.

But this challenge is about league titles, and thanks to River Plate, Alex Ferguson has achieved this goal.
