Treble challenge part 3

We go again hoping to follow on from the last database treble winning save.

2018/19 real-life league table. Looking pleasing on the eye, showing they can score high, concede little, and win large amounts of games.

Hopefully, we can do the same.

In the transfer market, there were more exits than recruits.

Notable from the departures has to be these two players.

  1. Stuart Armstrong to Southampton

2. Moussa Dembélé to Lyon

Dembélé is a massive loss given the goals he scored in the two previous DB, and I thought Armstrong played well in the last one.

Celtic did buy Odsonne Édouard who did well but was an understudy to Dembélé for me.

Also, Timothy Weah, the son of the great George Weah, arrived on loan from PSG.

Let’s look at the team on the DB.

This will be my first team squad.

Balanced well in every position. Bringing back Izaguirre offers cover for Tierney, which  the LB position was a concern in the last save. If I’m being a bit picky, I’d say a strong DMC cover is needed. Ajer can drop in there, but he’s not at the standard who can play in that position.

The two signings highlighted earlier.

He looks decent for this league with plenty of promises to turn elite. Scotland could be a smart move for the young gun.

Odsonne Édouard looks the same as before. He will get more game time this time round. Im tempted to play him as a forward and not a striker, so it will allow me to bring Weah into the starting 11.

familiar faces and Ntcham i go straight to look at his stats. I can’t wait to see what he can do, considering how good he was in the last save.

McGregor looks descent compared to previous DB.

And Tierney looks so good, I’m sure I will be knocking bids back in the transfer windows.

I overlooked the loaning of Benkovic. I like the look of him.

The first game of the save and before the Scottish League begins is a European game.

Good chance for me to test a few players out.

Comfortable first-half lead.

Ntcham with an assist, Édouard scoring from midfield, and McGregor scoring from open play has put a smile on my face.

I picked Forrest over sinclair. I’ll be honest I have in the past struggled where to play Forrest in midfield. However, in this DB, he looks better than sinclair.

Full-time, and I’m pleased Weah got his debut goal.

Pleased with the win. I’m not pleased with the lack of defending from 50 per cent of my defenders.

Two defenders unable to make a tackle, let alone a header in a game, is just rubbish.

And so it begins.

The season opener.

Half time

I’m glad to see Édouard can score from midfield. I went in thinking he needs to play upfront, but that’s 2 goals in 2.

Ajer randomly with another assist and some defending stats to be pleased about.

Tierney, with a double assist showing celtic, can be a threat from the back as well as the front.

Full-time

As soon as Édouard got his brace, Weah had to prove a point and go one more a head.

He’s commanding his position before I start thinking Édouard should be given a run as the lone striker.

McGregor is fighting for a place to start in this team and delivers. Rogic looks decent, and I’m never dropping Ntcham.

European night and Celtic go through.

Weah with continued goalscoring form, and I’m starting to think this could be my starting 11 for a while.

Reminded in this game to set a penalty taker.

Something I always forget to do.

Rogic back from injury and is demanding a massive wage boost, which I think is a bit cheeky given the form of my two MC and lack of first team appearances.

But Rogic return from injury is a blessing, and his services will be called on in the next couple of games.

The following game is in Europe.

Again, I’m not bothered about the competition. But I’ll put out a decent team with some fringe players to see how they get on.

Rogic, one of those fringe players, along with Lustig, both gave me food for thought.

Rogic next game, however, ended with him being forced off through injury

It’s a bad one.

Draw for the league cup.

First defeat of the season in a goal thriller with Hibs.

Comfortable win for the fringe team in Europe follows.

I ain’t taking the champions cup seriously. I’ll dip some starters in the competition.

As a result of fine form from the fringe players, I decided to add one or two into the first team.

I lost two key players in my starting 11 days that followed on from the win against Aberdeen.

Took a painful defeat with motherwell 90th-minute winner.

Looks like I’m missing Brown presents at the back.

I did go strong against PSG, but they are levels above Celtic, and more annoyingly, I lost Brown once again on his return.

Absolutely destroyed Hearts in the league.

With a hatrick hero, Weah, and another fine display from McGregor in midfield.

Record a nice win in Europe. However, I paid the price afterwards with more players sidelined.

The team is falling apart with the amount of injuries it’s picking up on the road.

First old firm derby of the season.

Half-time

Rangers sitting comfortable with a 2 -0 goal cushion and judging by their threat on target, there will be more goals to follow.

Celtic needs to wake up a bit. I know it’s not my ideal starting 11 and with some players even playing out of position.

They need to show me something else in the second half.

Full-time, and we take a draw away from home.

Clinical infront of goal with 2 goals from our only 2 shots on target.

McGregor is continually impressing.

Édouard playing as a striker grabs his brace and sends a reminder that I could drop weah altogether. If I wanted to squeeze in another midfielder on form.

I wasn’t sure sinclair would be effective this season, but he had an alright game.

Made a late sub, just to see if we could nick the late winner. Plus, Rogic looked weak in defensive duties. I was scared this could have lead to a late winner for Rangers.

Next on injury list.

This is a bad one.

Cup competition time, and it’s a tough one.

The injury list before each game has a different name added every week.

Some positive news arrives with the return of Ntcham and Weah. Probably to early for this game.

McGregor is getting recognised for his talent, and contribution is justified in winning player of the month.

Half time and Hearts are in front.

Both had chances. Celtic having more, but failing to take any of them.

Defensively, we look poor. I’m not sold on Ajer playing in DMC

Full-time and a domestic cup exit in the first round of trying.

The treble can’t be completed.

And to top it off, I still forget to set a penalty taker, and it’s cost me the game and the save… maybe.

We take another agonising loss on the road after doing everything right before half time.

Next league game is against St Mirren fully fit team for the first time in ages. Apart from the long-term injury of fringe player Izaguirre.

The captain leads by example. Desperately to encourage the team to revert back to winning ways.

Absolutely destroying them with chances. Hard to believe only 1 goal has been scored.

Nice to see Ntcham contributing to the game as well, considering he has been out for a while.

Full-time and in this half they took their chances.

Rogic and Weah looked a threat in the first half, and either one should have scored. I’m glad to see they didn’t let their performance drop and was rewarded with a goal each.

Lustig has been pushing to get in the starting 11.

He has capped off this game with a stunning display and has now relegated Boyata to the bench.

Hearts are on a winning streak and don’t look like stopping as they sit at the top of the league.

I’m not going to waste time in Europe. But I did enjoy this display against PSG.

And another penalty miss ffs.

The win keeps the distraction going.

The win sparks a run of good form in the league. Which we need if we want to catch hearts.

And again Brown presents is a positive force on the team.

I rested players for the league games ahead, which dumped me out of Europe.

I’m not going to lie. It’s a blessing as I have to catch Hearts.

Win against Livingston was comfortable and rewarding as Hearts slipped up against St Johnstone.

4 point gap separate the two clubs, with celtic still a game in hand.

The next game is against Hearts as well.

It’s easy to see why their form has dipped.

They have been hit with so many injuries.

Celtic hit them hard in the first half. Capitalising on Hearts injury misery.

3 shots on and rewarded with 3 goals before half time.

I’ve had to drop Édouard into the MC role, and he hasn’t disappointed.

With a goal to his name and an assist, he doesn’t look out of place .

Lustig again commanding the right back position.

Full-time and the damage was done in the first half, celtic have earned all 3plts and put the pressure on Hearts own title campaign.

Hard draw in the UEFA cup

The game ended in a draw. Picking up injuries is never a good thing. Even if they are fringe players.

Didn’t get a look in at Stamford Bridge.

Along with the injuries, celtic picked up a lot of cards that will rule out a number of players for the second leg.

We turn our attention back to the league campaign, and we face off against Rangers.

Half-time and Rangers pull one back before the whistle.

Rangers looking better out of the two teams.

Rogic individual goal effort is the only joy from this screen. Brown is putting in a shift, as is the defence.

We need to see something creative from the attacking players in the second half.

Forrest seals the win right before the whistle.

We needed something from our attacking players, and the combination of Édouard and Forrest broke Rangers down in the end.

Weah will be gutted not to have gotten a goal after he had so many attempts.

Another win straight afterwards puts Celtic above Hearts in the league for the first time.

Hibs stealing a win and Celtic win again helps open up a gap in the league.

After the climb in the league to top spot, I have no interest in UEFA. So I let the fringe players get a runout.

More misery for Hearts in the league.

We turn our attention to the remaining domestic cup competition, and we see Celtic drawn against a divison 1 team.

Weah goal puts celtic ahead in the first half.

Ntcham doing what he does best. Putting in an easy pass on a plate for the lone gun to put the team in front.

Weah adds to his first goal and returns the favour to Ntcham with an assist to get him on the scoresheet, too.

The win in the cub sets up an old firm derby in the fourth round.

Had a beef with Rogic for not turning up for training, and he reacted like a little kid.

But he put aside his beef with me and acted professionally in the next game.

Even got on the scoresheet.

Old firm derby

I’ve had the better of them, really.

Rogic continues his fine form with a goal and an assist.

He may have moaned, but the talking too must have gave him a fright.

We take all 3 points on offer.

Rogic with a man of the match award just makes you laugh.

Rangers ain’t no push over either. As they make their way to the Scottish league final.

But in the other cup, celtic stand in their way and feeling very confident after beating them in the league.

Gave away an early goal, but comes Weah with a goal to level the score before Half-time.

Scott Brown is already putting in a shift. The score, I’m sure, would be different if he wasn’t commanding the midfield.

And it’s all over. Celtic is out of the cup. Beaten by their rivals at that.

The treble was over going in, and now the double can’t even be completed.

It’s just the league to concentrate on now, and Hearts isn’t seen as a threat anymore. They have lost their rhythm at a time celtic have found theirs.

In other news, Rangers pick up a domestic trophy.

Celtic does win a domestic trophy of their own. By lifting the league title.

But there’s still some games to be played in their league break away thing.

We start with Kilmarnock, and we batter them badly, and yes, I finally got round to setting penalty takers.

I lost Rogic early on, which is gutting given what he achieved in the 30 odd minutes he was on the pitch.

Nearly headed for a draw in the next game. But up came Weah with the winner.

I’m glad he got the goal because he missed the penalty that was awarded.

Brown took a knock, hopefully he’s not out for long.

One more shot at Rangers.

With Brown missing, I’m not feeling confident.

We do, however, take the early lead.

Ajer is doing very well in place of Brown vacent slot. McGregor is also playing well, and I have no doubt that if he keeps it up, he will get a goal.

The goal never came from McGregor, but the result stayed the same.

Ajer highlighted in the first half for having a good game, doesn’t even make it to the end as he got injured with all the running around he did.

Rogic returns for the next game and puts on another masterclass performance.

One more bash at Hearts before the season is over and it ends with a win.

That’s celtic won all of their break away games.

At least they end the season with a trophy.

Scored a ton of goals along the way, but just couldn’t do it in the cup competition is just insane.

Players end of season stats

If I had to single a player out of the team. I pick the following.

Worst campaign of the challenge by far.

And to add even more misery.

Rangers completed a domestic double ffs.

Only I could set myself a challenge of replicating real-life accomplishments that would end up diminishing their achievements. That also puts a domestic double in the hands of their rivals.
