Chapter 1 – sam allardyce

The idea is to go back in time to better or save a managers career, who’s ended in a short period of time.

Rules are simple – manage the team you have inherited and play out the coming season.

Play any tactic. No WIBWOB

Sign nobody unless signings we’re made in the January window. Can only be the same ones.

Plain and simple – don’t get sacked!

So it begins….

So, what’s the background of this first adventure?

After he got sacked, where did Newcastle finish?

Cup wise and top goalscorer?

What team do we inherit?

There are plenty of attacking options which is good.

DMC is covered nicely with experienced players in Nicky Butt and Joe Barton.

Safe pair of hands in Given.

Defensively is a bit worrying. Particularly the left-hand side.

In real life, the season started brightly for Newcastle, with two wins and two draws from their first five games.

Let’s get the season underway.

Game 1 at home against Everton.

This is the team and formation I’m going to start.

45 minutes in and a penalty miss. I’ll roll till the 60th.

I can see Owen ain’t doing anything, and my head is say to take Martins off. However, N’Zogbia is left-footed and Duff ain’t had a shoot.

Paused it at the wrong time as I could see a goal has gone in.

Geremi scores from open play to make up for his penalty miss. But there’s also a sending off, and it would have to be from the position I picked out early on as my weakest to cover.

The game ends with a win and a clean sheet. Gutted about the red card and lesson learnt to set Owen as penalty taker.

Game 2 – Away to Reading

Comfortable first half till another sending off.

Game carrys on, and this time, the game stops for an injury.

Still, the game finishes on a win, and Owen gets off the mark with a brace.

Game 3 – away to spurs

First defeat, but I’ll take an Owen penalty goal as I forgot to set him up at the start.

Game 4 – Home to Manchester United

Late goal and a clean sheet, gutted for yet another injury.

N’Zogbia took his chance with his first start because of Duff picking up an injury in the last game. This is a massive win for Newcastle  against a top team looking at their lineup.

Proud of that.

So the table after the first 5 games looks like this…

In real life, they only managed 8pts in 5 games. So already off to a better start.

Draw for the second round of the league Cup, is an away day against a division 1 team

Easy runout.

Gambled playing some kids and rotational players

Milner’s been in my thoughts

So it was nice to see him play well with an assist. But disappointing to not have a shot at goal.

Return to league action.

Liverpool are showing themselves to be title contenders lately.

This draw will go far.

One ex Liverpool player and one future Liverpool employer doing it at home.

Milner kept his place, and this time took his chances.
